The Opportunity
There is an urgent call for businesses to create frameworks that align their decision-making processes with practices that focus on saving energy, reducing carbon emissions & driving sustainable growth. In essence the world needs Business Superheroes.
DETA Consulting is an award-winning engineering consultancy expanding its Melbourne presence. With a mission to remove 2 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions every year by 2030, our work focuses on giving clients measurable benefits in decarbonisation, operational improvements, energy resource efficiency and renewable generation. We are always looking for ways to future-proof our clients with resources that will enable their businesses to continue progressing into the future, with confidence.
You'll join a talented and driven team working across the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through to providing technical support during commissioning and installation of industrial projects.

What You'll Be Doing
You'll work across a portfolio of engineering engagements, completing site visits, developing feasibility studies, building business cases, and providing technical expertise to support the delivery of commercial, industrial and institutional industrial projects.  DETA's Melbourne team works closely with the Australia/New Zealand offices, cross-Tasman collaboration is a genuine part of the role.
  • Developing feasibility studies and business cases for decarbonisation, electrification, energy efficiency, and process optimisation projects
  • Financial modelling and cost-benefit analysis to support capital investment decisions
  • Technical analysis of client operations — translating what you find into sound, implementable engineering recommendations
  • Providing technical support during commissioning and installation phases of projects
  • Preparing and presenting recommendations to industrial and executive audiences
  • Cross-office collaboration with DETA's NZ team on Australasian project delivery
We're Looking For
DETA's Melbourne team is looking for a talented and driven engineer. You'll bring strong technical capability alongside the ability to write and present clear, implementable engineering recommendations. Comfort with occasional site visits is important, DETA's work is grounded in real industrial operations, but the day-to-day role is office-based.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering — Chemical/Process or Mechanical preferred
  • 3-8 years of post-graduate engineering experience
  • Confidence engaging with industrial site environments when required, understanding live operations is part of delivering good outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to produce implementable feasibility studies and business cases
  • Australian work rights (essential for this role)
  • Experience with energy management, process heat, refrigeration, utility systems, or decarbonisation projects
  • Financial modelling and cost-benefit capability
  • Strong technical report writing for industrial and executive audiences
  • Self-directed delivery capability, you can manage your own workload and output
Why DETA
  • Real mission- remove 2 million tCO₂e per year by 2030. Measurable. Not marketing.
  • Non-hierarchical structure - talented, driven engineers working within a collaborative and open team environment
  • Cross-Tasman team - work alongside NZ colleagues, access a wider portfolio of engagements
  • Outcomes-driven - this is engineering that gets built, not filed away
  • Growing AU presence - join at the right moment in Melbourne's expansion
The Package
  • Competitive salary + potential to earn bonuses
  • 5 weeks annual leave
  • Volunteering leave - 3 days per year
  • Annual professional development budget + study time
  • Health and life insurance
