What You'll Be Doing
You'll work across a portfolio of engineering engagements, completing site visits, developing feasibility studies, building business cases, and providing technical expertise to support the delivery of industrial projects..
- Developing feasibility studies and business cases for decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and process optimisation projects
- Financial modelling and cost-benefit analysis to support capital investment decisions
- Technical analysis of client industrial operations — translating site realities into sound engineering recommendations
- Providing technical support during commissioning and installation phases of projects
- Preparing and presenting engineering recommendations to industrial and executive audiences
- Collaborating with colleagues across the NZ and AU offices on shared project delivery
You'll bring strong technical capability alongside the ability to write and present clear, implementable engineering recommendations. Comfort with occasional site visits is important, DETA's work is grounded in real industrial operations, but the day-to-day role is office-based.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering — Chemical/Process or Mechanical preferred
- 3–8 years of post-graduate engineering experience
- Confidence engaging with industrial site environments when required — you understand live operations and can work effectively in them
- Demonstrated ability to write implementable feasibility studies and business cases
- NZ work rights (essential for this role)
- Experience with energy management, process heat, refrigeration, or utility systems
- Financial modelling and cost-benefit capability
- An interest in decarbonisation, electrification, or carbon strategy
- Non-hierarchical structure, talented, driven engineers working without decision making layers or politics
- Work that matters, your output directly reduces industrial emissions at scale
- Strong technical culture, weekly informal check-ins, fortnightly formal project reviews
- Cross-Tasman collaboration, NZ and AU teams work together on shared engagements
