The Distribution consulting team specialises in designing projects for electricity distribution businesses across New Zealand. Projects span zone substation upgrades and new builds, renewable generation connections, switchboard upgrades, outdoor-to-indoor transformation projects, and the implementation of smart technologies.
Projects recently delivered include studies for major wind and solar farms, where the team works with both developers and utilities on application and due diligence. The team prides itself on forming trusted partnerships with clients, consistently seeking ways to innovate and challenge industry norms.
As Principal Engineer, you will foster and enhance professional and technical expertise, advance your career, and share your knowledge through mentorship and leadership. What will you be doing
In this role, you play a pivotal part in shaping critical electrical infrastructure nationwide, improving reliability and service quality for communities.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high profile distribution market projects
  • Providing oversight and direction on projects, effectively collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
  • Developing client relationships, understanding their needs, and delivering tailored project outcomes
  • Offering technical guidance, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Preparing detailed, high-quality reports and presentations for management and clients
  • Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders
  • Delivering technical expertise according to project timelines, quality standards, and cost objectives
  • Compiling budget estimates and pricing schedules
  • Contributing to team wellbeing and maintaining open communication channels
About you
The successful candidate will be a team player with a solid grounding in electrical design, a commitment to continuous learning, and a University degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (BE or equivalent) with a minimum of ten years’ relevant experience required.

Additional attributes:
  • Significant industry experience, preferably in New Zealand or Australia, with established sector networks
  • Previous consultancy experience 
  • Advanced technical competency and experience
  • Proven expertise in electricity distribution networks and substation system designs
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivation, excellent organisational skills, and a strong work ethic
