Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Power Systems Design Engineer to join our team. This role is a key technical leadership position, ideal for someone with a strong background in power systems engineering and a passion for shaping the future of energy in New Zealand. As a Principal Engineer, you will lead complex projects, mentor junior team members, and provide technical guidance on design and implementation strategies for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Lead design and development of advanced power systems, including transmission, distribution, and renewable energy integration.
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to run design projects from concept through to completion, ensuring milestones are met, and clients are satisfied with the results.
- Innovation: Drive technical innovation within the team, identifying new methods and tools to improve efficiency and sustainability in power systems.
- Client Interaction: Act as the primary technical advisor to clients, understanding their needs, providing expert guidance, and fostering long-term partnerships.
- Mentorship: Support and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth-focused work environment.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all designs and solutions meet New Zealand's regulatory requirements and align with industry standards.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Chartered Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years in power systems engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior design role specialising in, primary, secondary, substations or protection.
- Technical Skills: Strong expertise in power system modelling, load flow analysis, fault analysis, and renewable energy systems.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in industry-standard design and analysis software such as ETAP, PowerFactory, or equivalent.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with a track record of developing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
